The 'special something' which makes me want to paint a particular scene might be the patterns and colours of a bird's feathers or something special about the lighting of its surroundings. Whatever it is, it has to be something I feel I can manipulate and experiment within my chosen medium. Sometimes it is simply a striking composition. I try to avoid 'high key' treatments which I feel are more suited to watercolour techniques. - My preference is for a structural approach with focus areas 'worked up' and other areas more unfinished.
